If a factory Ford Mustang isn’t exciting enough for you, Shelby has a fix.
The 2017 Shelby GTE has been introduced and is available from $17,999 on top of the price of a base Ford Mustang. Available on either the V8 or EcoBoost model, the GTE comes with a Shelby Power Pack that increases V8 performance to 456 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque (up from 435 hp and 400 lb-ft), while the EcoBoost goes to 340 hp and 390 lb-ft (up from 310 hp and 320 lb-ft).
Also included in the standard package are Ford Performance cat-back exhaust, handling pack and wheels, Shelby GTE hood and vents, Shelby upper and lower grilles, Ford Performance front splitter, Shelby rocker panels, rear spoiler and Shelby GTE striping and badging. The cabin features a serialized dash plaque and engine plate, backlit Shelby door sill plates, headrests and floor mats.
If the standard package isn’t enough, Shelby offers plenty of options for the GTE, ranging from a factory supercharger upgrade that boosts performance on the V8 from 670 to 750 hp. There are also track cooling systems, forged Shelby wheels and track-ready braking and suspension systems available. Optional exterior accessories include a carbon fiber kit and a convertible light bar.
“From the Ferrari-beating Shelby Cobra to the 1965 Shelby G.T.350, Shelby American has always delivered world-class performance at a great value for everyone, not just the one percenters,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “Our newest cars are cast from that same mold, delivering affordable excitement for everyone. When the public begged for a version of the Ford Shelby GT-H rental car that they could own, we applied the winning formula from the Hertz program to the Mustang. Working with our friends at Ford Performance, we created an affordable car that delivers full-throttle excitement and remarkable styling.”
