Psychological marketing analyses of marketing and branding and other such customer-oriented behavior offers guidance on what makes good giveaways. In general, giveaways as promotional items for a business should be branded by that business. When it comes to big ticket items as giveaways or prizes, the prize should be something that increases the image of the company or organization in the mind of the public. Having said that, it is worth looking at some Mustang prizes.
A prime example is Codemasters Mustang prize. Early in May, they released a playable demo of their upcoming racing game GRID. This is the new North American re-brand of their TOCA/Race Driver series for the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network. The competition is in a Time Attack mode. The top five will be flown to the GRID launch event to San Francisco. The grand winner wins an eBay Motors-branded Ford Mustang GT-R. The contest ends May 25, 2008.
The eBay Motors Ford Mustang GT-R is modified with a custom body kit. It has a supercharged engine with 445 hp, a side ported exhaust system, 20” GTR concept wheels, and a six stage custom pearl paint job and – of course – eBay Motors’ graphics.
Another example is February’s Sunbury (PA) Firemen's Street Fair Committee raffle of a V6 Premium Pony Package model -- fully loaded. The fund-raiser for their Volunteer Fire Department sold 300 tickets at $100 each. Ray Herb of Sunbury, PA, was the winner. The Firemen's Street Fair Committee is considering making this an annual event.
Also in February, NBC and the Ford Motor Company joined forces to offer a 2008 Ford Shelby GT 500 KR as the grand prize in the Ford 'Knight Rider' Giveaway Sweepstakes. To win, viewers had to watch the Knight Rider movie on February 17 and answer questions online at NBC.
There are a several reasons why the Mustang is a popular. It’s a well branded product with a muscly reputation. New or old, it doesn’t matter. A Stang is a Stang is a Stang. Old or new, a Mustang is a classic or about to become one. It also has a certain charisma that makes it an icon in and of itself.
Also, the Mustang, although being middle-aged, still has that youth appeal that was the reason the Fairlane Group wanted to bring it to life in the first place.
Another reason is that there is intrinsic beauty in the Mustang lines that made it the first automobile to win the Tiffany Gold Medal for design excellence.
