2008 is the certainly the year for special editions at the Ford Motor Company. In an effort to boost lagging sales, the automotive legend is releasing several special edition models that are certain to appeal to Mustang lovers everywhere. Whether or not this will be enough to get Ford back into their number 2 slot remains to be seen, but they sure are trying.
Three main special editions have been announced. Letís take a look at what they have to offer.
The Shelby Mustang GT500KR will be rolled out late in 2008. This model has already gotten a lot of attention due to the fact it was chosen to be the new KITT in the remake of the television series Knight Rider. This model represents the most powerful Mustang ever produced by Ford. In case you were curious, the KR stands for King of the Road, not Knight Rider.
It may just be the King of the Road thanks to an incredibly powerful engine and some great attention to detail. This collaboration with Carroll Shelby may just prove to be Fordís smartest move yet. The GT500KR features signed Shelby headrests, 40 more horses under the hood and a very cool exterior.
Not to be outdone, the special Bullitt edition is also being rolled out this year. It comes in two colors, the fabled Highland Green and Black. Every detail from the car in the classic 1968 movie has been reproduced in this car. The first thing you notice is the missing Pony on the grille, but thatís made up for by whatís behind it. This engine is a little more powerful than standard, packing 315bhp.
The interior has also been modeled closely after the car in the movie. From the faux gas cap on the center of the decklid to metal sill plates, everything has been reproduced. Ford engineers even went so far as to calibrate the sound of the exhaust to match that of the car in the original movie. Only 7,700 of these fabulous cars will be produced.
The new Warriors in Pink special edition is also being produced this year. Only 1,000 units will be made. This version comes in either black, performance white or metallic silver and features a pink rocker racing stripe, pink ribbon pony accents and contrasting pink stitching on the charcoal leather interior. At roughly $22k, this is one special edition that just about everyone could afford. Too bad they arenít making more of them. $250 from every purchase will be donated to the Susan G. Komen society to help them in their Race for the Cure against breast cancer.
One other special edition that hasnít gotten a lot of buzz yet is the $29k GT/California Special. Not much information has been released about this one yet, but given the other releases, it shouldnít disappoint.
If you are a collector or if you just love your Mustangs, this is definitely the year to get your very own collector car. At these prices, it only makes sense.
