The KR in this Shelby stands for King of the Road. The King is 40 this year. The 2008 Shelby GT500KR lives up to its title. It reaches 540 hp and might be the fastest Mustang ever known. It rumbles in pure classic Mustang fashion, but better. Ford SVT Chief Vehicle Engineer Kerry Baldori says, “This sound is so addictive, you know that something special is coming when you hear it.” The distinctive exhaust sound is the result of the 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 coupled with a stainless steel exhaust system that has smaller, cylindrical resonators.
The system is 20 pounds lighter and has less back pressure. This increases performance significantly. In 1968, the Shelby Cobra GT 500-KR was innovative and took the pony car to new heights.
