Pony car sales for July 2009 weren’t all that great compared
to June.
Mustang sales dropped by
almost 1,000 units, from 7,632 to 6,686, and sales of the Camaro dropped over
2,200 from 9,320 to 7,113.
But, as
the numbers show, the Camaro beat out the Mustang by over 400 units.
And, GM is reporting a backlog of
orders that will keep Camaro sales at a decent clip for at least the next
couple months.
But after those couple months?
The current high sales of the Camaro may be a product of its
recent introduction and the Mustang’s saturation of the pony car market over
the years.
Drivers may just be
looking for something new.
It is
hard to imagine that, in its current financial state and its recent emergence
from bankruptcy, General Motors will be able to keep the streak going, but we’ll
just have to wait and find out.
