This week, Roush filed recall documents with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the 2010 427R, Stage 1, and Stage 2 Mustangs equipped with the sport brake kit option. The problem, according to the documents, is that a "loss of stopping performance" could result from loose bolts in the caliper anchor plate. The bolts may loosen or become dislodged during normal vehicle operation, resulting in the calipers not being sturdily mounted, which in turn leads to bad braking.
Thankfully, the problem has a pretty quick fix: installing a different type of caliper anchor plate bolts on both the front and rear brakes, a service that will be performed for free by dealers. The problem first came to Roush's attention on July 14 when a Ford dealer relayed a customer complaint about unusual brake noises. Roush investigated and found that some bolts may not have been properly torqued during installation.
Needless to say, if you have a 2010 Roush Mustang, then get in touch with the company as soon as possible. Roush will be getting in touch will all customers during the next few days, but you can speed up the process by contacting either the dealer that sold you the car or Roush directly at 866-307-6788.
