2009 Ford Mustang FR500CJ Cobra Jet |
The Cobra Jet FR500CJ Mustang was brought back to the Ford Racing lineup in 2008 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Ford's 1968 win at the NHRA Winternationals with the original Cobra Jet Mustang, a race that the new Cobra Jet won this past February upon its debut in the event.
The 2010 Cobra Jet FR500CJ will go into production in the fourth quarter of this year with initial deliveries expected for early 2010, and it will feature a few upgrades over the previous model. The engine will be a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 rated at 425 horsepower, and Ford is also mulling implementing an aluminum black V8 rated at 475 horsepower. The six-speed manual transmission from the 2008 Cobra Jet will make a return, and there will also be an option for a Liberty five-speed manual and a race-tuned automatic.
