The 3.7-liter engine that will be put into the Ford Mustang in the 2011 model year has its origins in the company's twin-turbo EcoBoost engines.  There were some changes made, since the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 was specifically designed for transverse, front-wheel drive cars, but it looks like Ford has come up with a 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6 that will soon sit under the hood of the base Mustang.

A variant of this port fuel injected 3.7-liter V6 can currently be found in the Lincoln MKS, which has 273 horsepower, an impressive bump over the current 4.0's 210 horsepower.  Also, there is speculation that the direct injection technology from teh EcoBoost may make its way to this 3.7, which could potentially boost the V6's power to the 300 horses mark.

We'll have to wait a bit to find out further details, but the LA Auto Show is coming up in November, and Ford has made some pretty big announcements there in the past, so there will probably be some news.
