Anyone who thought Steve Saleen was straying from his Stang roots when he founded his new company SMS can breathe easier. The storied Mustang tuner recently announced intentions to produce a Signature Series lineup of limited edition cars based on the new 2010 GT with Saleen’s highest-powered model boasting an amazing 650-plus hp.
Saleen recently held a press conference but he kept most of the Signature details largely under wraps. Although the 2010 Mustang is chock full of improvements it is most likely SMS's development is in the final testing stages since the basic guts of the current Stang will transfer to the refreshed version.. Saleen’s Mustang will follow the introduction of the SMS 570 and SMS 570X Dodge Challenger's his first two SMS tuned creations.
The standard 4.6-liter V8 engine from the 2010 Mustang GT will produce 315 hp, but thanks to the introduction of an SMS supercharger the 460 Mustang will produce between 475 and 650 horsepower. A new SMS Red Butterfly Induction hood helps to give the 460 an aggressive appearance while the exterior will be tweaked to improve the car's aerodynamics.
Other changes will include Saleen inspired upgrades to the suspension, tires, wheels and interior.
Deposits are currently being taken for the SMS 460 Mustang via the entire Ford dealership network.
