The 2007 Shelby GT500, undoubtedly the most powerful factory-built Mustang ever produced was center stage at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ, as Ford Motor Company and Barrett-Jackson teamed up to auction off the right to own the first Shelby GT500 coupe offered for public sale. The Shelby GT500 prototype red coupe was driven onto the auctioning block by Edsel Ford accompanied by the legend himself Carroll Shelby. With the excitement intensifying, both addressed the crowd from the podium before the feverish bidding began. After the dust settled, one lucky bidder forked out an astounding $600,000 plus an 8 percent auction fee to secure the right to purchase this dream car.
The successful bidder will receive the first production Shelby GT500 built to his/her specification, including the color and factory available options. Also, included in the auction price was a matching MAC toolbox complete with racing stripes and a picture of the 2007 Shelby GT500.
While one Mustang Enthusiast’s dreams have come true, this auction also has a special meaning for many others. The proceeds will be donated to the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation, which provides financial assistance to children with acute cardiac disorders or those in need of organ and tissue transplants.
"This was a rare opportunity to own a very special car while also helping so many children that desperately need medical assistance," Mr. Shelby said.
With the auction of purchasing rights to the 2007 Shelby GT500 becoming an outstanding success, let’s hope that Ford and Carroll Shelby have inspired others to follow in their footsteps, so that many more children can receive the help that they so desperately need. |
