In what is quickly becoming the most anticipated release, more news has surfaced on what Ford has planned for their 2010 Mustang. More information has surfaced on the body design and purists will be delighted with the changes that are planned. They won’t have to wait long either. So far, it is looking as though the 2009 models will be identical to the 2008’s while the 2010’s are brought out in early Spring of ’09.
So far, the design news has been muffled, but spies have managed to capture several shots of the heavily swaddled 2010 Mustang on the streets of Detroit. The company has been slowly releasing more information on their plans and they look to be pretty spectacular. Here’s a rundown on what is planned so far.
The Shoulder Hump – this is probably the first thing that many people will spot. A new “hump” will be added just behind the door openings and produces a nice clean line for the car. Some have compared it to the similar hump on a Charger, but according to reports, this version is much sleeker and looks better.
The Back – It appears as though Ford is paying attention to the taillights, as they appear to have been changed slightly. In addition, the new rear bumper is sporting a 45 degree angle bevel job which makes the car look a lot less square.
Overall Design – The design is definitely harkening back to the glory days of the Mustang. The 40th anniversary edition of the Bullitt Mustang is believed to be a source of inspiration for many of the design changes. The 2010 has been compared in many ways to the late 60’s Mustangs that looked as powerful as they drove.
Up Above – Although it is still in the planning phase, Ford is testing out an all glass roof that may be included in the 2010 release of the Mustang. This is a new feature that has many worried about safety, but the overall effect is very cool. Ford is focusing more on interior lighting and this certainly provides a switch. For people who want the freedom of a convertible but don’t like messy hair, this is certainly one solution.
Inside – Expect some major changes in the interior. It is believed that the company is focusing more on making the interior driver friendly and many controls will be migrating a bit. The center stack is being redesigned to allow more room for new technology features such as GPS screens and navigational tools.
Colors – You can expect to see quite a few new interior and exterior color options in the 2010 model. While the new Bullitt is only being offered in two options, Highland Green and Black, several bright colors are anticipated for the 2010 Mustang. Interior options include color contrast stitching and a lot more attention to little details in the fabric and upholstery.
