  Ford Racing Mustang Challenge

Saturday, March 1 is the date for the official launch of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup, according to officials associated with the event. The Mustang Challenge, presented by BF Goodrich Tires, will take place at Miller Motorsports Park near Tooele Valley, Utah.

On the day of the event launch, 25 samples of the brand spanking new Mustang FR500S will be presented to their new owners. Also included at the event will be seminars by Ford racing engineers on car set-up.  In addition: BF Goodrich engineers will talk about the BF Goodrich g-Force R1 tires, and an AIM engineer will discuss the data acquisition system.  The series rules will also be explained on the launch day.

Officials say that owners of the new, delivered cars should expect to take part in a group photo shoot.  Also, there will be tours of the Larry H. Miller Auto Museum; the museum contains part of the collection of Ford-powered cars owned by MMP owner Larry Miller.

The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup is an 8 round series that will feature the Ford Mustang FR500S. The cars are all fitted with Goodrich g-Force R1 tires.  Sanctioned and authorized by the Grand American Road Racing Association, the series will consist of eight races in 2008.

Lynda Randall, Series Director, will lead the event staff. Randall has a lengthy background in managing racing events.

Drivers in the event will race for prizes that total more than $300,000.  Winners will be decided on a point system, with points awarded through 25th place.  Drivers receive 30 points if they win and a point for taking pole position.

The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup will consist of a series of weekly 45-minute sprint races.  On the weekend of the race, there will be two half-hour practice sessions, a separate 25 minute qualifying session, and culminated by the race itself.
