Sales of Mustangs in Canada Post an Increase

Feb 14, 2008  By:  All Ford Mustangs News Desk

Over all sales of Ford car products in Canada declined 5.1 per cent while sales of trucks and the fuel efficient Ford Focus saw sales increases. The overall sales of Ford products including cars and trucks together shows an increase of almost ten per cent from January 2007.

Worldwide, sales of gas hungry muscle cars and sports cars like the Mustang and the recently reintroduced Challenger are slumping in the face of ever increasing gas prices. In the United States, gas prices are stuck well above three dollars a gallon. Consumers are staying away from cars that have the reputation of being gas hogs for smaller cars that offer more in terms of fuel economy.

The rise in Ford Mustang sales in Canada has sparked celebration in Ford's Canadian division. Canadian vehicle shoppers look for quality, versatility and style. We've listened carefully to our customers and we are delivering the kinds of vehicles they want to drive. Now we have a strong start to 2008, and with new products like the break-through Ford Flex crossover and the new 2009 Ford F-150 coming this year, we will have even more to offer Canadians,” said Barry Engle, who was recently named president and CEO of Ford of Canada.

The increase in Ford Mustang sales in Canada is good news for Ford, which has been short on reasons to celebrate recently. Tweaked designs and an increase in the available customization options for factory delivered Ford Mustangs have excited Ford Mustang enthusiasts. Ford hopes that between the new options and Mustang versions released for the 2009 model year, including a glass car roof that has set the web buzzing, will prop up sales until Ford unveils the all new 2010 Ford Mustang redesign.

There have been many “spy reports” reputed to be the new prototypes of the 2010 have surfaced, complete with pictures, on various auto blogs and websites including MotorTrend and Car and Driver Magazine. New shots show the 2010 Mustang with an all-new front and rear fascia, so new headlights are likely in the works. Ford Mustang enthusiasts should also expect new tail lights as well as a new grill. Reports say that the new Mustang is taking design cues from an earlier Guigiaro Mustang Concept car.

Hopes are that the new revamped Mustang will breath new life into the flagging Mustang which has seen sales steadily decline in the United States. The new Ford Mustang will join a resurrected Chevy Camaro and a newly unveiled Dodge Charger. Experts believe that the new trio of muscle cars will attract aging baby boomers looking to relive glory days. Boomers will have more disposable income and will be less worried about rising fuel costs and diminishing gas mileage. Ford is pinning its hopes for a Mustang resurgence on boomer nostalgia for muscle cars.
