Word is that the 2010 Mustang will have a 5.0 liter V8 engine. According to Ford Australia president, Bill Osborne, the new 5.0-litre V8 will be built in North America for the Ford Mustang.
The story emerged as part of the debate regarding the V8 engine in the Ford Falcon. It is well known that the Ford Falcon and the Mustang have a long relationship, what with the Falcon being the basis of the first Mustangs.
Apparently the Falcon has been experiencing a drop in sales. Environmental issues may have played a part as well. The 5.4-litre 'Boss' V8 will still be available in the Australian Falcon XR8.
The Australian solution to emission control is Ecoboost which favors V6 engines. The plan is to focus on a tango between performance and fuel economy.
In the discussion about the potential retirement of the V8, Osborne mentioned that the 5.0L V8 is slated for North American production for the 2010 Mustang.
