This October, at Vicari's 16th annual Biloxi Auction at the Mississipi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center, a 2009 Shelby GT500 KR, personally delivered to and owned by Carroll Shelby will go under the hammer.
The car in question is KR #445 and is finished in Ebony Black with Satin Ebony stripes (one of 236 out of a total of 712 2009 model year KRs painted in this combination). As a KR, it sports the 540 horsepower 5.4-liter supercharged dual overhead cam V8, Tremec T6060 six-speed manual gearbox with short throw shifter, 8.8-inch solid rear axle with a 3.73:1 ring and pinion and Ford Racing suspension with specific dampers and coil springs, plus 34 mm front and 24 mm rear stabilizer bars.
Other standard features include 14-inch Brembo front and and 11.8-inch Ford rear disc brakes; 18 x 9.5 inch Shelby KR wheels and staggered Goodyear Eagle F1 special compound tires.
Like other KRs #445 started off life at the Auto Alliance plant in Flat Rock, Michigan as a regular GT500, before being shipped to Shelby's Las Vegas facility for conversion into a KR. Delivered to Shelby's Ranch for his personal use, wasn't owned by the late automotive legend for that long before being sold on; though it does have his signature on the glovebox and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Additionally, the car is believed to have covered less than 1,600 miles since it left Shelby Automobiles Incorporated on the grounds of Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
In view of Shelby's death in May, the Biloxi auction likely represents the ideal opportunity for this car to find a new buyer, since with Carroll's name on the title; it will likely attract a healthy number of serious bidders. This year's Vicari auction runs from October 7-14th as part of the annual "Cruisin' the Coast," event. For more details on the KR and the auction, click on the link below.
