MGP Caliper Covers is expanding its line of Ford-branded products. Working with the Blue Oval Office, MGP has found a way for car owners to dress up their stock brake systems, improving the look and setting off larger custom wheels and tires which are so often an owner’s first step in personalization.

MGP introduced the covers in August 2008, after four years of engineering development. As is the case with so many automotive innovations, the inspiration for this product came after Mike Barland, president of MGP, bought new wheels for his own car, a Ford Mustang.
The wheels, he discovered, were larger in diameter and exposed the area behind the wheel. The aftermarket design looked good, but it also uncovered one of the ugliest components on the vehicle – the brake caliper.

Barland found that aftermarket brake kits were expensive, especially considering the stock brakes were more than adequate. The vehicle did not need the extra braking power. That left plastic covers, held on with silicon, or aluminum covers held on with double-back tape. He ruled out painting the caliper, and hit the drawing board. Four years later, the MGP Caliper Cover was born.
After testing multiple methods, testing confirmed a clip and fastener system was best to hold the caliper cover. The stainless steel fastening system has been patented and the design is flexible across many applications.
Sales were solid, even during the recent tough economic times, and MGP expanded the line to include more than 50 domestic and foreign makes. Up until now, options were limited to paint color and custom engraving, but with Ford on board, MGP now offers a full line of Ford-branded logos for the 6061 aerospace aluminum covers.

Open wheels now showcase your car's character. |
Ford Mustang covers will have the official Mustang lettering behind the front wheels and the famous bar and pony in the rear. An optional GT logo will also be available for the rear wheels. Specialty Mustangs such as Cobra, Mach 1 and the Cobra snake are also in the works, and Ford trucks and SUV covers will sport the Ford logo.
“Partnering with Ford as a licensee on this innovative accessory will bring the car enthusiast a completely new styling concept while incorporating desired Ford brand logos," Barland said.
There is no tape or glue used in the fastening system, and the covers are powder coated which should ensure a long-lasting, durable finish. MGP claims the covers reduce brake dust and heat, and offers a three-year warranty. Prices start around $200 for a full set in red, black or satin, and custom painting and engraving is offered. Orders, a product overview video and even an installation guide can be seen at www.calipercovers.com.
