The Hajek Motorsports Ford Mustang FR500C |
It rained for most of yesterday at the Talladega Superspeedway. By the time the sky had cleared and the track had dried out enough for Bill Elliott to take out the Hajek Motorsports E-85 Ford Mustang FR500C, daylight was winding down. Elliott took the car out for a shakedown run, then brought the car to the pit for a few tweaks. On the second lap of his next run, the front right tire blew out, sending Elliott skidding into the wall. Nobody was hurt, but the suspension damaged sustained by the car made it impossible for the team to continue and cut short their hopes at a world-record run today.
Within the few laps that Elliott completed, he was able to set the E-85-fueled record at 174.206 mph. While this attempt was disappointing, it's not going to stop Hajek and Elliott from retrying once the car is repaired.
