Mustang Owners Join The Fight Against Autism

  Dec 6, 2010

The Oct 2nd All Ford Mustangs "Mustangs in the Park Car Show" was, by all accounts, a great time for participants and visitors alike, with some of Newfoundland’s greatest original pony cars filling Bowring Park. But as much fun as it was, it wasn’t the best part of the event. That came a couple of weeks later, when the Newfoundland and Labrador chapter of AllFordMustangs.com got together for their regular Sunday cruise and rolled on over to the Elaine Dobbin Autism Centre in St. John’s.

There, the group presented Ms. Dobbin with a $6,000 cheque for the Newfoundland and Labrador Autism Society.

There were other presentations, too. On hand was Harry “Herk” Phillips, the salesman who broke a million Mustang hearts in 1964 when he sold Mustang No. 1 in St. John’s. Ms. Dobbin made a presentation to Herk on behalf of NL Mustangs.

And it didn’t end there. Carl Hamlyn and Bob Ford of the Newfoundland Antique and Classic Car Club also recognized Phillips’ place in local gearhead history with their own presentations.

NACCC member Bob Ford also had a little something for Herk Phillips.

To cap the afternoon, all hands took the opportunity to mark the historic moment by getting their photos taken in front of John Whitten’s 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible -- not the Wimbledon white of Herk’s first sale, but a darn fine substitute.
