Tony Buffomante is running a select schedule in the 2009 Mustang Challenge and hasn't participated in the last two events of the series. That didn't stop him from giving a star performance yesterday at the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, though. Buffomante took the top spot after some contact between the top two point holders, Andrew Caddell and Ted Anthony Jr. The contact sent both off-track in the first lap, allowing Buffomante to take the lead with Jason von Kluge right on his tail.
Caddell and Anthony both made it back onto the track in short order, dropping from their #1 and #2 spots to #12 and #13 respectively. Caddell's superb driving got him back into the top ten within a few laps, and he battled his way to the front of the pack by the end of the race, edging out Jason von Kluge for second place. Anthony was not able to make up any ground through the rest of the race though, and ended up finishing last. Caddell and Anthony are still running a tight contest in the points standings, however. Caddell has the lead with 317, but Anthony is nipping at his heels with 296.
The 2009 Mustang Challenge series will be back in action this coming weekend, where the racers will face off at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. If you're in the area and want to check out the action, you can visit the track's website here.
