Ford's newest special edition F-150, the off-road ready SVT Raptor, doesn't seem like the kind of vehicle you'd see on the streets of Hollywood, but it will be taking the town by storm on June 23rd when a new documentary, "Raptor - Born In Baja" will premier at the Egyptian Theater. What makes the Raptor worthy of this consideration? Well, as Bud Brutsman, the CEO of Brentwood Communications (who co-produced the documentary with Ford), relates in a recent press release: "I had read in the automotive trades that Ford had told its dealers
that the Raptor would be the 'first truck you could buy right off the
lot and drive in Baja'...I told Ford, 'Let's prove it.' "
The Baja 1000 is a tough race, and when it was entered, the F-150 SVT Raptor hadn't been around that long (you can check out our prior coverage of the Raptor here). The Special Vehicles Team didn't really have all of the shake-down time that a construction and race team normally would before entering their vehicle in a grueling competition, but they did it and the results were very good. The Raptor finished third in its class, completing the 631-mile race in 25.5 hours.
Don't worry if you're not in Hollywood to catch the documentary, as a one-hour version of it will be shown on the SPEED channel on Sunday, July 12, at 4 p.m. EST, followed by, one would assume, a few reruns after that. Check out the trailer below and get ready for some off-road goodness.
