The Rehagen Racing team performed well at the recent Roush sponsored event at Daytona Beach. Two of the cars managed to place in the top 10, but the team was hoping for a little better showing. According to the crews, there were some mistakes in the pit that cost them some valuable time as well as a better placing.

"One mistake got us today," said a dejected Roush who started the No. 59 ROUSH/Valvoline Mustang in 11th position, his caree rbest. "It looked like we had a real chance for a win today. We'll get it figured out though.” Despite this early failure, the racing season is expected to be spectacular. Jack Roush’s son will even be competing and this race was the first one where Jack ever got to see his son in actual competition.

According to the company, it looked as though the two cars would finish one and two before the pit problems robbed them of their victory. In a press release issued by the company following the race, they noted, “Unfortunately, miscommunication and confusion during a late pit stop dropped both cars back in the field with precious few minutes remaining in the three-hour race to make up the ground. By the time the checkered flag flew on the three-hour event, Plumb (with co-driver Mike Canney) finished sixth while Martin was able to make a last lap pass and will be credited with Jack Roush, Jr. for a tenth place finish.”

At different times in the race, both cars managed to take the lead. Hugh Plumb was driving the #60 Ford Mustang, while Jack Roush Jr piloted the #59 car. They had a ten second lead over the third place contestant when disaster struck. "The racing was really intense out there," Roush said after the event. "I expected it to be a real meat-grinder with all the cars on the track and am a little surprised that there were not more accidents. It was intense for sure, but not as bad as I had anticipated that it would be.”

Plumb ended up finishing sixth in the race, while Roush placed tenth. The company provided a quick recap of the race, stating in their release, “Both cars led the race at various points; Plumb led a total of 20 laps, Martin was at the point for 10 laps, and Roush led the field around the 3.56-mile stadium road course for two laps. This event combined both the Grand Sport (GS) and Street Tuner (ST) classes of the KONI Challenge on the racetrack simultaneously so making your way through traffic would prove crucial to a successful finish as there were 89 cars competing in the race.”

The next event is scheduled to take place on May 26-28 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut.  Fans who missed the initial race may be able to catch it again on the Speed Channel.  The race season is certainly picking up!
