Ford put a lot of money into developing and promoting the Fusion, with one of the most impressive displays being the hybrid model's 1,447.5 mile run on a single 17.5-gallon tank of fuel. In April, the Fusion sold over 18,000 units and represented the first American-made vehicle to crack the top three in sales for the mid-size car segment since July of 2002. And they did better in May, with 19,786 Fusions sold. The Fusion Hybrid also did very well on the market. Total hybrid sales for the month of May were 3,906, beating the company's previous record of 3,420 from April 2006.
The big piece of news is how the new Mustang fared in the market. May represented the first full month that the 2010 Mustang has been in dealer showrooms, and it came through, selling 8,812 units, the highest Mustang sales since July of last year. While these sales are lower than the average of about ~10,000 units per month that have rolled out of Ford's factories, they are not severely low, indicating that regardless of the economy, the Ford Mustang is going to have a special place in the heart of American drivers for years to come. |
