2008 is looking to be a banner year for the Ford Mustang. Numerous editions are coming out and some great improvements may make a real difference for the beleaguered Ford Motor Company. Let’s take a look at what’s ahead for the Mustang in 2008.
Knight Rider Tie-In – This certainly has a lot of people talking. The Ford Mustang GT500KR was chosen to replace the F-Body Pontiac as KITT in the show. It is set to premiere in February of this year, but it may be delayed due to the writer’s strike.
2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt Edition – To mark the 40th anniversary of this cult classic film, Ford is releasing 7,700 Ford Mustang Bullitts. Each will feature elements from the film as well as some engine changes that make it even more powerful.
Glass Roofs – Ford is premiering a new third roofing option for the 2008 Mustang. You will now be able to select a clear glass roof as well as the standard or convertible options. The company is hoping this roof will appeal to those who like a convertible but want their vehicles to be a little safer.
The GT500KR – As mentioned previously, this new edition is really causing some waves. Working with Shelby again has proved to be successful and this model really blows your socks off. Even more horsepower is crammed under the hood as well as some great new features.
Safer Driving – The 2008 Ford Mustang was named one of the “safest cars on the road” by the NHTSA. It passed all crash tests with five stars, outperforming everything in its class.
Different Ads – Ford is planning on some different advertising techniques for the Ford Mustang. Since it performs well in specific markets, like California, these areas will have a greater saturation of ads, as opposed to other areas of the country. Ford hopes to capitalize on geographic interest for specific models of their vehicles in this way.
Customization – This is really the “me” year for Ford. Drivers will be able to customize the interior of their 2008 Ford Mustang, thanks to the new “My Color” color-configuration options. You can pick from an enormous palette of colors to really customize your own interior. Other options include ambient lighting for the interior and a limited edition exterior color that is quite surprising.
More Charity – A special 2008 edition of the Ford Mustang known as the Warrior in Pink will benefit the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. This limited edition of 1000 cars will feature pink accents, a pink pony on the grille and pink stitching on the charcoal leather interior.
2008 may be the year that Ford is able to turn things around. They have outdone themselves with new advances in the Mustang and it looks as though this trend will continue. The buzz for the 2010 Mustang is already reaching a fever pitch as people try to spot which body changes will be rolled out. Look for the swaddled vehicle doing road tests in Detroit to see if you can spot what will be added for 2010.
