I'm currently installing my SSBC Front disc brake conversion kit. While reading the instructions it mentions installing the rotor splash shield over the gasket "if there"...? When I removed my drums there was no gasket on there...
Is this a necessary item? If it was then you'd think SSBC would have included it with the kit. I've already installed the front rotors and torqued the bolts down, but if I need those gaskets I could always remove them before I go any further with installation...
i did a stock disc brake swap on my 68 and when i was cleaning up the original disc brake spindles there was gasket material that i had to pry off. so i made my own gasket with gasket material from NAPA
I believe Fords thoughts was to keep contaminates from entering the seal/bearing area.
If no gasket, the chances of dust, dirt, going between the shield, and the spindles would be greater.
Easy way to get new gaskets is to trace around the Triangle Dust shield on a piece of Gasket material, cut out, install.
