You must have either been going slightly downhill, had a tailwind, or your speedo is optimistic. A stock GT can't get anywhere near 150 on a level road.

i've gotten to 127 on i80 south of chicago but there are a lot of cops around here. i felt like it could have done a little more but it always seems that there's a beetle in the left lane doing 54.9 mph.

still trying to get that big ol' 392 in......always hold-ups

if i remember correctly i was pretty far up in 4th. mine was almost totally stock at the time other than a b303 cam and 3.55 gears. its a convertible and i had the top down. (that whole stretch of road is on a slight downgrade so as bullitt95 was saying i think that probably helped a lot) i know that if i upshifted to 5th around 120ish it'd start to lose momentum. to get it really up there you have to ride 4th quite while. i almost wonder if you have some really tall rear end gears or something and don't know about it. you are the 3rd owner right? could be a possible computer issue but if it seems like if that was the case you'd see the lagging problem at the same power range in any gear. can you tell if its running really rich or lean or anything like that?

thank god someone else said it....

his spedo is prolly off, thanks to his bigger rims.

140 is believable, but according to this it goes to 137 stock, with a 5 spd equipped with a 3.08 rear end gear..

but 115? come on, my 5 speed is at redline at that speed in 3rd gear...

150+

I bought my stock 95 GT in sarasota,Fl and had it barried past the 150 mark on the speedo end, on the Howard Franklin bridge that runs from St. Pete to Tampa, I probably had a little wind help..... but it was a freakin handful and I know it was at least 150 maybe 155 if i was lucky

I thought the sn95 gt was governed. I thought the computer wouldn't let you go past 125...

would factory tire rating make a difference ? ford couldn't sell it with tires that weren't rated to the capable speed of the vehicle in factory stock trim, could they ? if that's the case, it would HAVE to be electronically governed to the speed rating of the tires. mine came with 16"s but it had z-rated firestone tires on it. the optional rims for '95 was 17" and came with 245/45 zr rated tires on it i believe. don't know if this is the case here but if yours more or less just stops pulling @ 115; it's got to be electronically limited to that speed.

ive had mine at 136 with a aode but anything past that she just wants to rev outta controll like the tranny is slipping in overdrive but its a brand new tranny with diffrent clutches and overdrive band and a 2500 rpm stall converter

TO: Ricers-
1) there's no replacement for displacement
2) my lug nuts require more torque than your engine makes
3) a light car doesn't excuse a weak engine
4) a bottle of pepsi has more liters than your motor eating rice builds muscle

Either your car was not stock, or the speedo was way off.... top speed stock is about 140...

Yes, you are exactly right on this. It has nothing to do with the power of the car what gear or any of that. Ford limits the cars to the level of tire performance they came with from the factory and this can be changed with a tuner or custom tune.

well i have 17's on my mustang (the 03 cobra rims) think it 245 45, i think lol. but anyways once i hit the 115 it just stops, like no it stays still doesnt over rev or anthing, but that was a while back i cant remember what rpms i was putting out. so would i be governed at 115? would just tuning get rid of this?
