Best way is to remove the valve and shake it. If it rattles, it's still ok.

If you are having blow-by problems, its time to replace it.

Meant to say I can't reach the PCV valve to test it in my last post. Should have proof read before posting.

No, no blow by. It only has 46,000 miles on it but its 14 years old and I wanted to change it. Problem is I can reach it to shake the darn thing to see if its OK. It does lose a little oil, roughly a pint in 3K miles but I'm running synthetic so I'm not concerned about that. So, are what you all saying is a bad PCV valve will make the car consume oil? Or will it also cause idle and stalling problems? Thx>>AJ
