For a stock '94 Mustang GT...

...how much is the horsepower/rpm stock? Is it faster than the 87-93 series of Mustangs?

5600 is your rev limit...I know 215hp is gay considering the 96+ GT has 260hp stock with a smaller block...

actually MackDaddy 96 and 97 Mustang GTs had 215 hp stock from the 4.6L SOHC. It wasnt until 98 that 225 hp came from ford on the Mustang. In 99 the Mustang finally got new, much improved heads giving the Mustang GT 260 hp from the factory and has remained 260 since.

gtrag94 is correct. The 99's came with 260. Still tons below the "305" rating GM had on the 99 Z's..

IMHO, the 94-95 GT's were S-L-O-W. They can definitely be made to go fast, just takes a bit of money and effort.

There are only three things the copilot should ever say:
1. Nice landing, Sir.
2. I'll buy the first round.
3. I'll take the ugly one.

Hey guys we are seriously off topic with the last few posts (great topic though) so I have split these last few posts off into its own thread as "Fox vs SN95 body style". So now we can get back to addressing "how much is the horsepower/rpm stock? Is it faster than the 87-93 series of Mustangs?" question originally posted

Actually Talon your post did address the question at hand but I have already moved it to the new thread since its really what sparked the Fox vs SN95 body style discussion

"5600 is your rev limit...I know 215hp is gay considering the 96+ GT has 260hp stock with a smaller block..."

This is NOT true.. the rev limiter on the 5 speed 94/95 cars.. is 6250.. same as before.. yes.. they are slower than the prior years.. this can be atributed to the extra weight in the car.. and also.. the POS programing that ford decided to give them in the ECU.

Put it this way.. you can put a 180 deg thermostat in your 94/95 stang.. but around town.. this isnt gonna do chit... it may actually make it run hotter.... why?.. because of the electronic fan..
it is set to turn on at a specific temp.. around 210-230 deg's..

There are ways to help cure this.. such as a manuel fan switch.. or something along the lines of an EECTuner.. wich allows you to control subtle things such as the prior mentioned.

Another thing that contributes to the "slowness" of the 94/95's.. is the fact that FORD decided that it would be cheaper to program the EEC to remove timing during the shifts.. than to upgrade the T-5's..
Im sure you have all heard about the t-5 being a rather weak transmission.. so.. think about this..
The T-5 is rated at.. EXACTLY 300 FT/Lbs or tourqe.. how uncanny.... thats exactly what a STOCK mustang makes..
Throw some agressive shifting at the thing.. no wonder they break.

Now.. with that in mind.. what would be cheaper for ford?.. find a transmission .. redisign bellhousings.. driveshafts... laladeda.. OR.. repgram the ECU to take 5 deg's PLUS timing out of the engine during shifts?.. lets see.. one simple perameter.. OR.. 500K transmissions....
I would imagine you see the point.

The 94/95's are slower due to weight.. and a more "enviromental.. durabilty protection" program..
Thats what it is..

Another problem is that even though the rev limiter is set at 6250, power drops off well before that. Installing my upper and lower intake did WONDERS in that department. There are lots of things you can do to yank weight though, and the SN95's seem to handle a bit better than the Fox bodies in my opinion. Stock for stock, the 87-93 is faster though.

'95 Mustang GTS, Edelbrock Performer Upper and Lower intake, FMS 3:73's, B&M Ripper 5-speed w/Hammerhead, MAC CAI, Steeda HD rear UCA's, Steeda ST brace, Steeda 8mm wires, advanced timing, 2 chamber Flowmasters

Appearance: '01 Bullitt wheels, Saleen rear fascia, Steeda mats, Steeda pedals, Indiglo whiteface gauges.

94 GT horsepower

If I am not mistaken on this there were three diff engines that year of which two were rated at 215 hp and 240 hp. This can be verified by the vin #. If there is an E in the vin then it was the 215 hp version and if a 0 it was the 240 hp.

Available Engines:
3.8L EFIV-6145
hp
5
.0L EFIV-8215hp

5.0L EFI
V-8
240hp

Vehicle Identification Numbers
Engine Codes
3.8L EFI V-6 145hp45.0L EFI V-8 215hp E5.0L EFI V-8 240hp 0

hmmmm....I get conflicting info when I search.....will the real hp please stand up...lol

They are probably not faster, but close...I can tell you for sure the build quality is night and day better...
There was only one engine for the GT, the 210 hp 302, the 240hp motor only came in a Cobra...
I bought a GT new back in 94, it was quite something when it came out, still a great car and perfect for budget build ups...that is why my 2nd Stang is a 95, the pushrod engines/platform are much cheaper to mod than the costly "mod motor 4.6"
