Moates quarterhorse & binary editor

Well, I did it!! I went to Clint Garrity's website and bought both the Binary Editor and EEC Analyzer ($130). They recommended that I update windows and I did that, took 2 hrs. Then I went to Moates.NET and bought the QUARTERHORSE and downloaded the driver. Should be here in a few days.

TOTAL COST QH= $268.26 (with 2nd day UPS air)
TOTAL COST EA & BE= $130.00
TOTAL OVERALL COST = $398.26

Sunday, I installed a new "FORD" IAC ($170.00), new ACT, and a new ECT. I also cleaned my MAF (not really dirty). A week ago I installed a new computer. With all of this new it does idle better and runs good. Still, if I am at a long red light for ?? 90 to 120 seconds some thing seems to switch and it begins to idle rough like it is loading up.

I figure, if I am going to do more mods then I better get the QH and get started learning. (Only problem is "I ain't too bright). I hope to start a thread about the whole learning process. (you may all find out "the lights are on but nobody's home").

Anyway, I will see if I can learn enough to do a write up like Quarterhorse & BE for "DUMMIES". Or by a "DUMMIE". We'll see.

Congrats on taking the plunge! im thinking of doing the same thing. tired of paying out the wazoo for dyno tunes. good luck with the tuning. i think the you can get good info from this site:
eectuning.org.

they mostly deal with the tweecer but the theory should still help when figuring stuff out.

good luck!

I installed the QH in my cars computer today. That was the easy part. After I hooked up the QH to the computer then I had to load the drivers. Probably easy for most people and I had the directions from the BE Help Section but about halfway through, I lost my way. Anyway, got the drivers loaded and then I needed to roll a window down so, I turned the key on and I heard the electric fan running on the engine. I knew this meant there was a problem. I tried starting the car and it was just flooded to the max. Then I realized I had not yet programmed the QH with the T4MO file. Once I wrote this file to the QH, at least the car started and idled as normal. I do not have a clue where to start with the tuning for now but at least the car "RUNS". I am doing a simple write-up about how to do this "For DUMMIES like me". I think I got the EGR and Smog Pump (Thermactor) turned off but not sure will read the program this weekend and see if they are really turned off. Well it's not much but it is a start.

thanks for posting your experience with the qtr horse. its one of those things that im leery about purchasing cause i know so little about it and i've heard you can really screw up the car if you aren't carefull. i look forward to your posts. it will be good to hear if its as difficult to figure out as people claim.

thanks.

I will keep posting what I learn. Funny thing is I read the Binary Editor info called Getting Started and Getting Connected but still I missed the part about simply pushing the "write" button to get the stock T4MO definitions loaded onto the QH. It was an interesting and yet frustrating day. Tough to do when you are not a computer ??? nerd???

I have the basics set and will try datalogging tomorrow. If all goes well, I will get the digital dashboard up and going. This will be so cool. You can see your Air Fuel Ratio, TPS Voltage, Battery Voltage, and much much more. I will post what happens tomorrow.

Keep in mind I am doing a WORD Doc with all the info that I can remember to put in it that I will post once I do a bit more learning.

I did get the datalogging going. I also got the Digital Dashboard up and running. There are some settings I must have missed because the AFR & RPM were not working.

Later I made some additional changes to the tune and it did not like what I did. It gave me a whole bunch of errors. I will have to figure out what I did and redo it. I was just trying to raise the base idle. Not much tuning just trying to learn.

I just intalled QH on my 94 today, so I'm following you along to try and steal as much info as I can Did you take a look at this site http://tunexchange.mustang-tech.org/ ? It's helping me to get started, but that was after I sat there for an hour with the same problem you mentioned, fan on and car not running, until I figured out I had to click the "write" icon.
I would love to see that beginner's guide once you get it going. I'm going to need all the help I can get, I feel like a third grader trying to read a physics book.
Did you happen to read the "Moates" topic under help topics? Do you know what it's talking about when it mentions choosing one of the 6 different modes you can select when starting with the QH. Did I miss something?
I'm about to go back out and try to get datalog and dashboard going. It's great to find a thread like this that isn't old.
Thanks.
