Stock GT 5.0 Horsepower Potential

Hey!

What is the horsepower potential of the stock '95 GT MAF to accurately calculate/manage fuel requirements?

Page 20 of the 2002 Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog lists hardware to build 290hp using stock shortblock and cam. No mention of the MAF, so I assume it can handle 290 hp with 19 lbs. injectors (Pro Flow states the theoretical horsepower of 19 pound at stock fuel pressure is 337 hp)

Rob (GTRaptor) states in a high horsepower application it is likely to reach the Vmaf clip (~4.9V), injector pulse width is not updated with airflow info and the system leans out.

Could a stock GT MAF manage fuel requirements for a 300hp 302 @6000rpm? 400hp 302 @7000rpm (using FR EEC-IV EFI RPM EXTENDER and elevated fuel pressures)?

Thanks for the tech support!

It probably could probably handle the 300 HP, but I don't know about 400, I know 19 lb. injectors can handle 300 HP, but after that I don't know, if you plan on changing stuff later, then why not go ahead and spend the money on better flowing injectors and MAF.

You can handle 290fwhp with the 19# injectors. Regardless, I would recommend adding an aftermarket maf meter to that set-up. The kit is basically what I ran (except I used the Cobra intake) for a couple of years, though I never had it dynoed or tuned . I did run a 14.3@100.7 with stock maf and tb but had o/r h-pipe and cat-back installed.

There is a really good write-up by a guy on Mustangworks.com on that 290hp set-up. He dynoed the set-up as is, added a complete exhaust and dynoed that, then had a custom chip burned for the car via a dyno-tune. The kit made 245rwhp/284twtq (with a Pro-m 77) with no tune. He then added X-pipe with cats, cat-back, and dynoed 255rwhp/287rwtq with no tune. He then dyno-tuned the combo to 268rwhp/304rwtq with stock cam and 10^ of timing. He later added a Crower 15511 cam to his combo and ran 104+ in the quarter with a heavy 95GT convertible. Even without the cam and some increased timing, he would have been mid 270'srwhp and probably about 310rwtq. Old school but I think a good bang for the buck set-up. He stuck with the 19# injectors the whole time.

There are only three things the copilot should ever say:
1. Nice landing, Sir.
2. I'll buy the first round.
3. I'll take the ugly one.
