95 Mustang aftermarket radio

I have decided to replace my stock radio with an aftermarket one.

I've taken out the old radio and I have the new one but I am trying to figure this small situation out.

I have connectors for the powered stock amp, but I am certain I don't have the mach 460 stereo option. Does this make any sense at all?

I have a black square connector (to power the speakers/amp from my understanding) and then the rectangular grey connector for everything else.

On a side note, if I install an aftermarket radio, how do you defeat the anti-theft with those u shaped keys?

'95 anti-theft does not affect the radio at all. Just pull it out and unplug it.

The only way you have an amp is if you have Mach 460 sound. So, you have Mach 460 sound since you said you have an amp.

what makes you think you do not have the Mach 460?

My car uses that harness, has a factory amplifier, and I definitely don't have the Mach 460 system.

Well those are the connectors that were attached to my radio.

I didn't think I had the 460 because I only have four 6x8s. One in each door and one beside each rear seat. Unless that's the 460 setup in a convertible? Also the system sounds terrible lol

i just pulled mine last summer, and nearly all 95 mustangs had a small amplifier. Crutchfield and any other reputable audio supplier SHOULD have a bypass harness that lets you pull the speaker-out line from the back of the amp and bypass it. Receivers from back then didnt have quite enough juice to power speakers, so a 10-watt amp or so was installed to cut down on heat. do NOT run through the plugs directly on the old radio, you WILL blow your speakers, as the previous owner did to mine. Actually ended up replacing all four of them and running my own wiring because he effed it all up so bad.

as a side note... The air bag diagnostic module is right behind the amp. be careful when you work back there, even if the battery is unplugged, and make sure you take out the right part haha

OK - I guess I was wrong about an amp for a non-460 system...

In any event, if you have an amp, the connector I linked to will work.

Well I figured part of this out. My stang has a premium system, which I guess has one amp instead of the three with the mach 460 system.

Now my next problem. I've bought a wiring harness that has the connections for factory amp, but I want to bypass it. There is another set of connectors off to the side that apparently bypass the factory amp, but I can't find a harness for it at any store around here plus I am cheap.

Can I re-wire this somehow? The colour coded wires on the bypass connections do not match up with the standard speaker wiring.

Since the amp is currently hooked up, I would think you will have to disconnect it from the speaker and then somehow connect the wires in the other unused harness...since I highly doubt that both sets of wires are hooked to the speakers...

You are in the area of "it would really be better to just re-wire everything and replace the speakers" if you want to take this route, IMHO...

Well I managed to find a wiring harness that bypasses the factory amp. I've hooked it up and it works perfectly.

I wanted to bypass the factory amps because they are terrible. I think they are around 10w for each speaker.
