vortech supercharger

the vortech kit on american muscle is attractive in that it appears to have all your need to install this kit and make relatively good power with minimal hassle. from my research, it appears that you just need to install it and go, no major other mods etc.

possilbe winter project to install this kit, does the kit have everything you need, can you install this yourself like it says you can?

appreciate commentary.

well in the "rest of the story", I bought that kinda bolt on story from Kenne Bell...what a pantload!
You will need to upgrade the fuel pump, injectors, and mass air, then it will need custom tuning (oh about another $1500-2000), do you want any gauges? Add the cost for that...
Now will the rest of the car handle it's new power? I then found I needed a new clutch/pp...I had already upgraded my suspension, but if you haven't you will need it or you will zero traction...
These things are like a drug addiction with no treatment, only more money...consider where you are going and your budget carefully
Really if I was you, I'd just stroke the small block you have...really a much better way to go for good reliable power...$5000 would be a killer engine (you'll still need the other mods)

I dont want to get into too much with it. thing is I dont want to buy a CAI, or chip or whatever and then have to ditch it for getting the other mods. I think I am going to start with possibly the 373 gears mod see how that feels, then maybe go from there.

you will need all that and much more...3.73 gears are a great start...from there a Trick Flow "top end kit" would yield great results...trust me, a supercharger is a white elephant

Here is the things that are on my car: Vortech making 10 psi, 100 mm intake tube, 80mm air flow meter, calibrated for supercharger, 30 lb injectors, 255 lph pump, Autometer fuel pressure, boost, oil pressure, water temp, Innovate air/fuel gauges, (one for each bank), moates quaterhorse, 3000 b&m convertor, snow performance boost cooler. And that is just what I can remember off the top of my head. Oh, 373 gears. Add all that up, plus a dyno tune and software for your laptop so you can tweak the shift points in the quaterhorse and make other adjustments. It can and will add up. But my car will get after it, and make believers of camaros, corvettes, and some mustangs, and that is with a stock engine. Just think of what you can do with that setup plus some good heads, cam, intake. Think it thru, and have fun. I really enjoy the looks when people hear the whine coming from my car. Superchargers can make a docile car very aggressive, and it really only comes to life when you open the throttle. My car can sit in traffic forever and never run hot, because at idle, it acts stock.

Okay first off to ease your mind. i bought AM's vortech supercharger kit. it comes with literally everything you need. MSD ignition box, new fuel pump, fuel management unit, and obviously the supercharger. i put it in myself with the help of a friend. it bolts right in, and comes with step my step instructions on how to put everything in. you dont need to buy ANYTHING ELSE. it comes with EVERYTHING you need. obviously other supporting mods are better like new intake manifolds and cams and all that good stuff, but you dont need it to make the supercharger function. it makes good power. and im glad i bought it. i love it.

Dart 363 stroker being built for boost. NT05R's out back, Strange adjustable shocks and struts, FRPP aluminum driveshaft connected to a TKO500 with a McLeod Twin Disc RXT clutch, with a MGW short shifter controlling the shifts. Vortech V3

thanks for the advice and comments, this is great site. i used to do a lot on mustangsource but it is mainly for the newer stangs

what these guys arent telling you is the important stuff you need, like welding the torque boxes and plating them, subframe connectors and stuff like that.

Agree, also notice no one has posted any hp numbers or cost? Also I can tell you for sure the car will not run to it's full potential without custom dyno tuning..
To me, a stroker build or even a Trick Flow top end kit would net more hp than the supercharger on a stock motor...as a side note, the mod motors make better forced induction results since they inherently flow better stock, but the small blocks can be built to make hp much cheaper with standard hot rodding parts (cam, heads, etc)

In my case i am doing a 347 stroker with good heads (not sure which ones yet) and then a little vortech with 8-10lbs. but all of this after a 6 point bar, full suspension upgrade, platedwelded torque boxes, subframe connectors, and a fully built rear end. should make 450-500hp hopefully

I can speak from both sides here because I have built both. Everyone is right the boosted application is a budget nightmare on the SN95s. I purchased a Vortech kit and you are right it comes with everything you need to make it "function". What you need to figure out is what kind of power you want to make and if that basic kit is going to get you there. If the answer is yes, buy the kit, keep cheap tires on the car so it doesn't hook and bust the rear end, and keep buying T-5's from the junk yard (they WILL break). Just remember the parts in kits are the cheapest parts to get the job done they are all about profit. If you plan on trying to add more power later your bank account will eventually regret it. The stock block is only good for 600 flywheel horsepower period. Trust me on this I can send you picks of a broken block, stock crank broke in two places, two bent rods, and one chewed up piston. If you want to make any real power build a good motor and you can supercharge it later if you still want.

Oh yeah I guess I should mention that my budget project build is now over $40,000 including buying the car. It is a 363 stroker, a big bore Dart block with a 347 stroker crank. It has custom piston to lower compression to 8.8, a custom cam, Trick Flow twisted wedge heads, 60lb injectors, stock cobra intake with stock throttle body, shorty headers, and a T-trim. It makes 600 rwhp and 675 ft lbs of torque. Drive train is a Tremec T-56 magnum, spec stage 3 clutch, built rear end, and all the right beefing on the frame. Car runs awsome as a daily driver but if you noticed none of the parts I listed came in the kit except the T-trim. Just make sure you buy what you want.
