signs of another bad TFI module?

Alright, hope somebody can shed some light here. approx 45 days ago my 95 Gt wouldn't start. I replaced the distributor with a whole new one because the sensor in my original finally went down on me. In the process of diagnosing my problem I removed my TFI off my fender well and had it tested also. It tested good so i brought it back home to reinstall it. Upon re-installation the old one cracked and fell apart( I guess due to the heat and age of it). I then had to buy a new one to replace the cracked one. Car fired right up and ran great! Now this is my problem with it, ever since the new parts have been put in it runs like a champ when it is first started all the way till I drive it for 20 miles or so. Or if i let it warm up fully then shut it down and wait 10 mins to take another trip it starts acting up. The symptoms have been that it bucks, stumbles and misses at 1,500- 2,500 rpms when I'm easy on the throttle. If I give it a little more gas and accelerate quicker it hardly does it at all. I have also noticed that when It's acting up if i accelerate really hard that the car detonates badly while my foot is in the gas. Okay, so today I decided to take the TFI off the fender well and have it tested, well it failed immediately. I got a replacement, brought it home , put the white grease on the back of it, installed it and took it for a short spin. The car runs great! I then came back home and grabbed a quick bite to eat and then went for another spin. Same old crap again!!! Did i get another bad module again?? i know it was good before I left the store because I had it tested before I left. Are these parts just crap(the TFI module) or is something causing them to go bad? I also forgot to list that the car has the timing set at 11 degrees all new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and I just cleaned my MAF. Any Ideas?? Thanks!!

Hmmmm...

Quick question before I throw an answer out there...

What kind of distributor did you put in? Parts-store remans are notorious for re-using the PIP sensor, resulting in rapid failure upon installation...

So, is it possible that the PIP is bad in the new distributor? Not that I doubt a parts store's ability to properly test an electronic component like a TFI...

Wait, yes I do.

Could be the PIP in the new distributor...

Or could be you got unlucky with the TFI...

The TFI on the sn should not be getting heat soaked too terribly bad way over under the air intake crap. So, heat related spark issues caused by TFI should be fairly uncommon here...

Thanks for the response Alleymad95GT. I got a brand new Richporter Technology off ebay. It is an all new distributor with a new PIP inside it. lol on the parts testing. I hear ya! Thats why I just got back from Auto Zone and I tested the one I purchased today myself behind the counter. I hit it 9 times and it passed every time. I've got another warrantied distributor coming to me in a few days so I'll be able to change it out then. Somebody was telling me about my fuel pump trying to go out. That kind of makes sense since it only happens when the car is fully warm and it does show signs of pre-detonation.

Fuel pump could be the problem...after thinking about this for a bit, it would seem that your symptoms don't really indicate no spark. Might not hurt to pull a plug out when it acts up again just to verify that you are still getting spark when this is happening. Also, check the fuel pressure when its running good and then check again when it starts acting up and see if there is a difference

I might have solved the problem. I came home from work and replaced the fuel filter and took it for a drive. It ran great!!! Just as smooth as could be! Woo Hoo!!!! It did still have some spark knock at high RPM's but that could be my fuel pump not pumping enough volume to keep up and making it detonate. I do still plan on doing a fuel pressure check so I can see how much the factory 183,000 mile pump is putting out. Either way I'll take it at least for now. As long as it is not bucking and cutting out that's good enough for me, at least right now. Thanks for the input Alleymad95GT!! I do also agree with you Smurf stang, nothing beats Ford quality parts.
