Shifter bezel repair for 1995 manual

The lower retaining ring for our shifter has broken loose - the boot is just loose in the bezel. I see this is a relatively common issue and searching the the forums and Internet I see two options...
  1. Get an aftermarket aluminum trim bezel
  2. Get a complete bezel+boot assembly from salvage or eBay
Here are my questions...
  1. Do the aluminum trim bezels come with a LOWER ring that holds the boot in place? (if not, and mine is broken, what good will this do me?)
  2. Is there any way to repair the stock boot retainer so it simply holds the boot in place correctly again?

Do you have any pictures? Mine's also broken, it just cracked at the point closest to the fog light switch.

Black on black '95 GT ‘vert, 9# PD, AFR 165’s, Cobra intake, 65mm TB, Lightening mass air, 42# injectors, 190 pump, 1.7 rockers, X-pipe, Flowmasters, 'Z' trans , 3.27's, KB subs, Bilstein shocks/struts, H&R race springs, MM LCA’s & CC plates, Cobra brakes, Cervini's Stalker kit, S281 wing.

Actually I haven't pulled the bezel assembly to look. I just noticed the lower part of the boot is flopping around loose underneath the bezel.

I've continued searching online (and the forum) and I'm just not finding anything about a fix for this apparently common problem.

Although it sounds a little cheezy, I wonder how well this would work...

Using the lower ring as a template, drill a series of small holes around the top of the bezel. Then use small panhead screw/bolts to literally bolt the lower ring to the underside of the bezel. That way even if the ring is cracked it would still stay in place.

Seems like it would work. I suppose if you used small enough hardware and painted the screw/bolt heads black it might look okay.

All the billet rings I find are just the upper trim piece, not a two part set - one above, one below - that would sandwich the edges of the boot in place.

The billet trim ring will not solve your problem as it is strictly for looks and won't resecure the boot in any way.If the boot just came loose from the bezel you may be able to use a good epoxy to secure it or pick one up on Ebay and be done with it.They are not very expensive either.

Mine was broken when I got the car. The plastic tangs from the bezel that lock on to the support ring were completely snapped off. I just ended up using a few dabs of superglue to hold the boot to the bezel. It's holding up well after 3 months.
