95 gt which transmission fluid to use ?

I just bought my car back and noticed that it was leaking transmission fluid from the gasket so i took to a shop to get it fixed and they told me they added manuel transmission fluid but i kinda remember the guide book saying the 5speed uses auto fluid, i m not sure, so should i take it back to them? anyone know if this could damage the transmission :?:

TAKE IT BACK! that tranny takse dexton 3 or 4!

gear oil will kill that thing in a few days, it just too thick.

for that shop's stupid mistake make them put royal purple syncromesh in there.

Hotmustang95
i called the royal purple tech line like a year ago and asked the guy what would be the best thing to use in the T5 tranny the MAX AFT or the syncromesh and without hessitation he said the MAX syncromesh. he said it would overall do a better job for trannies that require auto trans fluid. thats what i'll be putting in mine when the time comes.

The Ford service manual calls for Mercon ATF. The point is you want ATF not gear oil.

One - where is the idea coming from that they used gear oil??? Am I not seeing a couple of words in this post or what? I do not see the word GEAR or OIL in there at all...

Two - you need to ask what they put in there. Plain and simple. They did not give (or you didn't push enough to get) enough info to you to determine if there is a problem or not. Royal Purple ATF or whatever is technically a suitable "manual transmission fluid" and will be fine. Mercon ATF is technically a suitable "manual transmission fluid" and will also be fine. Point is, saying it was manual tranny fluid is saying nothing more than "it was the proper fluid for your manual tranny."

Everyone here is going into a tizzy without even knowing exactly what was put in there. If I posted "they put FUEL in my car" and someone responded "OH MY GOD!!! DIESEL WILL RUIN YOUR CAR!!!" I might think they were leaping to a conclusion that is not necessarily warranted. I mean, to be sure, diesel will ruin my car. But how could anyone assume that is what I meant? I think based on what I read here that it is an even greater leap to conclude there is gear oil in the tranny...

and it collects dust admirably while parked for repairs in the garage...
