94 GT rebuild mods

New member here, so bare with me please. Just picked up a 94 gt with the 5.0 HO, just wondering what modifications I should do to it first.

The timing cover cracked, and leaked water into the oil. So it will be coming apart for a rebuild. It currently has MSD cap, rotor and coil, Ford Racing plug wires, CAI, Header back exhaust, Short shift kit, 355 gears, and an aftermarket clutch. It was rumored to have a cam but I have not started it yet.

I have a $2000 budget, just wondering where I should go with it. Thanks for the help!

uhh, $2000 might rebuild your motor, I'd make sure to use forged pistons and rods..then if you have the money get the "Trick Flow Top End Kit", some long tube headers and a custom tune...then work on the suspension

On a $2000 budget your not going to be able to do many mods. I would concentrate on building a good bottom end. Invest in some good forged pistons, you can use stock crank and rods on a mild build but I recommend ARP bolts. Get a good cam. After that get some aluminum heads. It cost about the same to buy a good set of heads then to redo the stock ones and they will never flow as good.

1994 Mustang GT, 306ci, Ported 351 heads, B303,1.72 Rockers, Typhoon Intake, 70mm TB, MSD 6AL, 24lb Inj. C&L 76mm MAF, 255lph pump, Equal Legnth Headers, Off Road X-Pipe, Flowmasters, Aluminum Driveshaft, 3.73 Gears

Read all the 94-95 Stickies, all of them will help, in your case particularly the timing cover and intake sticky. If you didn't know, the 94,95 has unique water pump and timing cover, the 79-93 kits won't work.

Your budget depends on some sort of goal. To be honest, 2000$ will go real fast just replacing aged high mileage maintenance parts that need to be replaced anyways. I've probably spent over 2,000$ just doing stupid stuff that broke on me. But, if you want to do a real budget buildup for a little more fun, maybe not serious 1/4 mile times but still pretty fun (mid 13's maybe) then here is my budget build:

GT40 or GT40P explorer heads. 100-200$ salvage yard, about 350$ to clean, mag and do a basic valve job=450-550$
Headers, summit shorties: 180$
Explorer Intake: Salvage yard 50-100$ 100-150$ ebay/cl
Cam of choice: 250-350$
Upgrade valve springs (TFS) 150$
All gaskets, valve seals etc. 150$
Total: 1050-1300$

Stock: 215hp, 15sec 1/4 mile New: 260-290hp 1/4 mile prob mid-sub 14's

3.73 gears on stock trac loc, just a rebuild kit: 175$ + 130$=305$
labor at most shops for install: 300$
Total: 600$ (pretty expensive, may be cheaper by you)
Stock: 3.08 (five speed) New:3.73 prob knock .2-.5 off the 1/4

2000$
-1300
-600
--------------
1900$
add misc. other things, prob be 2,000$ or just over.

Stock: 15 sec 1/4 mile, 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds
Budget modded: mid to possibly low 13's, 0-60 in around 5 seconds.
This was what I did to mine, but I have an auto so its prob more like only a 14 in the 1/4 for me if I'm lucky.

95' GT. GT40X 64cc heads. XE264HR with 1.7RR. AODE built to 98+ 4R70W specs and PI 3500 stall. 4.10 gears. Bama tune.

Thank you for all of the advice. I have access to a full shop any time I want, and my dad has been a mechanic for 30+ years. Therefore labor costs will be minimum.

The car already has the full BBK adjustable suspension, camber plates, and lowering springs. I'm also selling my other rx-7, so I should have another $2500 rolling in. I'm hoping this will get me somewhere in the 12's. I just dont want to skip anything, or do anything the cheap way... I've seen where that can lead.

If you want to avoid the cheap way then disregard my entire budget build.
aluminum heads are the only way to go, it has been already said, the Twisted wedge top end kit is a great value, the stage 1 cam is from what I have seen from other people's experience pretty forgiving with our computer if you leave it stock tuned or just a canned tune. I never owned one so I can't say anything about it otherwise.
