BBK Chrome vs. Ceramic Coated?

Whats up stangers? I am looking at what BBK has to offer and I have made up my mind on their 94-95 shortie headers for my mustang. :eyepoppin The question I figured to throw out there, is it worth the extra $100 to pay for the ceramic coating so you don't have to look at the pipe discoloration? Also, is that basically the only difference between the two?

I'm i the market too.I'm leaning towards the ceramic myself.Shop around,I think you can do better than $100 more for the the ceramic coating..I haven't got to that point where I need them yet,still piecing together the motor on a stand right now

Chrome vs Ceramic

Ceramic coated headers have several advantages over chrome (or even stainless steel).

1. Chrome will bake off and the headers will inevitably rust. Ceramic won't, and it will last a lot longer before any rust shows up.

2. Chrome discolors almost immediately - ceramic does ont.

3. Chrome does nothing for heat transfer - ceramic blocks a lot of heat. This is a real concern unless you like hot, toasty feet in the summertime (OK, it might be an advantage in Canada in the winter time).

4. Chrome does nothing to maintain the heat INSIDE the pipe, where it increases flow and flow velocity, both of which help power production. Ceramic helps both goals.

Things to look for when shopping... Ceramic comes 2 ways: coated outside only, and coated inside AND outside. The double coating is the best. Probably the priciest, but if you plan on keeping the car forever....

I put the ceramic shorties on mine. They are always clean and the engine bay stays a whole lot cooler.

95 GT Coupe, FRP B spring kit, Bullitt Wheels, Hurst short throw shifter, SVO Cobra Intake, X303 Aluminum Heads, Cobra Roller Rockers 1.7, Equal Length Ceramic Headers, BBK H Pipe, FRP Low Restriction Exhaust, Bullitt Calipers and 13" rotors. American Racing CAI.

I have the chrome model from BBK, do yourselves a favor and pony up the extra money for the ceramic. The heat thats generated under the hood backs into the cabin, enough that it will bother you in the summer. All my mods add to a very hot exhaust.

I regret not going fot the ceramic. You've been warned! lol

Im looking at a turbo kit that comes with ceramic coating but 304 stainless is a $ 700 add on. I do plan on keeping it for at least 30 years is the stainless the way to go? thanks

I think I'd like to review the specs on the system in question before commenting. Turbos are very different fish - they run VERY hot.

In general, if the ceramic coating is in/out type, I'd pick the ceramic - though it won't have the pretty bling of polished SS.

I can get it on both inside and out for 100 over just out. So coated ao stainless?

Coat

I'd run with the coated pipes. Saves your wiring, starter, and the skin on your knuckles if you have to troubleshoot a hot engine.

I have the chrome shorties and i would def go for the ceramic model. The amount of heat in the bay is annoying and they are every color of the rainbow now
