Question 2.3 swap 2.9 v6 any more horses?

Well my buddy has a ford ranger with a 2.9 V6 in it and he is planning on buying a newer truck. I was wondering if it be worth buying and doing the swap. Is the 2.9 rated at any more horses? Does the 2.9 get any better mpgs? I'm averaging 21 mpgs in my stang. Opinions would be great. thanks

Honestly IDK much about the 2.9 litre but I would guess it wont be a direct fit and would end up costing you in the long run. If your only getting 21 MPG I would go out and swap in a 5.0 that would drop right in obviously you need the tranny also and wiring harness and such but it would drop right in as to where IDK if the 2.9 would, but someone else im sure could tell you more.

If you're gonna swap in a new engine, why not just do a 2.3T?

well I would like to do a 2.3t swap but my budget wont allow it. Neither will a 5.0 swap.. I talked to my grandpa some now he's talking about either doing a 2.0 swap from an escort zx2 or just getting me an escort if my tranny goes out.. Hopefully it wont but sadly the ZX2's are rated at more hp and torque and my brothers zx2 will totally outrun my stang. My bro's 2.0 zx2 is rated at 225 hp and gets 30 mpgs. I'm looking for better mpgs with more power.. I think I'm more looking for a whole new car then LOL!

why don't you just add a turbo to what you've got? i come from the volvo turbo community and we just slap turbos on our n/a cars with great results...

don't you all do that here?

well it looks like the 2.9 and 2.0 swap is out. My buddy is sticking with his truck for quite a while and a 2.0 would be to much work.. I do like the turbo idea.. But where do I get one and how much do they cost?

I found this to be an ok site, but it would be much cheaper to go get one from a donor car because you also have to get multiple other parts.

Turbo City - Rock-It Parts

plus, just slapping one one there wouldn't do much, considering the car weighs a crap load and you can't go more than about 5 maybe six psi on the tube without destroying your engine. Even if you run a low psi its still possible you blow your engine, the way to avoid that is to get forged pistons which I've found in a price range of (used) $250.00 to about (new) $700.00.

the Cheapest route is to find a 1987-88 Thunderbird Turbo coupe (I've heard of people fonding a decent running one from anywhere between $500.00 to about $1500.00) and just take the engine and tranny from that and dump it in to your stang.(thats what I'm trying to do at the moment, need to get the money to do it first.) Plus you have a bunch of extra stuff after words to take room in your back yard to take up space or to sell XD (even use if you have the correct application.)

this is funny my brother has a 2000 zx2 and i have a 93 stang the only way he has that much hp is if he put a turbo in the car which then is no contest the zx2s stock only have 130hp more than the mustangs but only have 127 pounds of torque as for our 135 or so so we have more torque and the 2.3t swap isnt out of your budget you can get an engine for less than $150 from a junkyard probably only $100 it just depends on if you want to rebuild the engine or not. around me there is a xr4ti that has the engine that you could get it out of 2.3t on of the rarest 2.3t car that i know of (thunderbird turbocoupe, svo, and the xr4ti).
