Question What to look for when buying a SVO.

Since the day I laid my virgin eyes upon my first SVO it was love at first sight, no long was the V8 the big dog of the day, Ford showed that a engine with 2.7 less liters could hold it's own with the big dog 5.0. Ever since then i've been learning more about the highly adaptible 2.3 OHV. Now that I have my second 2.3 in a Classic and Rare 2nd Generation and noticed the simplicity but deadlyness of the engine. I decided my second baby is to be a SVO. I want to know the bad things I should look and hear for in this car and also the good things that should draw me into a good purchase. Thanks everyone for your help.

-the 84 model has an issue with brittle wiring
-the 84 and early 85 models have the inline intake and are 25 less HP than the 85.5 and 86 models
-check for people messing with the wiring in the car
-the passenger outer marker is getting near impossible to find under $400.00
*ensure it has the SVO particulars:
-Leather Steering wheel, Hurst shifter knob and boot
-Spats
-front suspension (look for tubular type lower control arms)
-all 6 Koni struts/shocks
-Lear seats

-Check the turbo compressor shaft for play. It should have about .020", as the oil dashpot will take that up with oil flow
-Pull the dipstick and look at the oil. Smell it for fuel.
-Look for rust under the doors, under hatch
-Check the exhaust manifold for cracks (usually between #2 and #3 cylinders)
-check to see if theintercooler brackets are there
-check for signs of frame damage from a front end collision (look at the frame rails between the Kmember and the firewall)
-check for all 4 wheel discs and 5 lug bolt pattern

thare is a start for you...HTH
