Question mustang lx with 86 svo engine chokes at high rpms. Whats Wrong?

I have a 1992 mustang lx that I bought after it was swapped with an 86' SVO engine.. The guy I bought it from was a friend and had put a lot of work into it.. but he blew the head.. I have now replaced the head and the car is not operating to its full potential.. as soon as i get on the boost(right about 4000 rpms) and only after the car has warmed up (It runs pretty good and is much faster when the engine is still cool) but once hot, it cuts out and makes a wierd bogging noise.. it has an upgraded intercooler mounted in the front capable of handling up to 900 hp and ever since it was installed the car has had the problem..(It ran much better with the stock intercooler) Ive been told it could be the injectors.. they are stock brown top 35lbs.. but those are suppose to be able to handle 300 hp easily.. so i dont know.. it also seems to have some problems idling(jumps up and down randomly) and often dies by itself at low rpms.. it also has a manual boost controller and boost gauge and i have tried turing the boost up and down and it seems to make no difference.. Any Ideas to what the problem could be?

I had a similar problem with my N/A 2.3 Mustang. My son "clypsogreen93" posted it on this site recently. It turned out to be a fuel delivery problem. We were thinking ti only happened when the engine was hot, when it really was running OK until we put a load on the engine and then the Fuel pump being partially clogged up was starving the engine. This made it run rough and bogg down with any load. New 155 LPH pump, filter, and adjustable regulator from Summit made the engine all happy and ready to rev like crazy!

Try to get a programmer for your ecu if its not a sending unit problem.

sorry you're having all those problems. i'm not sure what "bogging noise" is but does this happen both in vacuum and at boost? you mentioned that the car was better with the other intercooler- do you have a leaky intercooler hose? this will cause erratic idle at random, i had the same symptoms from a intercooler hose that split open but was not visible until removed. i take a 3" abs pipe plug (slip on, not threaded) from home depot, drill and tap an air fitting into it, install into flexible hose after vam and pressurize to 20 pounds- if you have a leak it will show very quickly. fuel pump is always possible but make sure you have fresh plugs and wires- i have to replace mine monthly or the power cuts out under boost. does your car use an iac motor? if that is unplugged or deleted that is your weak idle. remember that your car is after 8/1989 so the iac diode is internal (look for a "D" stamped on the iac plastic body) but the 1986 had the diode externally mounted in the harness. that means that if you used the 1992 harness with the 1986 solenoid you will be missing the diode and have an idle of around 4000 when hooked up. sorry for the long response but just something i wanted to pass on that is not widely known with 2.3t swaps. just in case it is a pump issue keep your boost all the way down until you figure it out- good luck and keep up the questions

Sounds like a problem my 86 SVO had. Turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. It was running way too rich if I remember correctly. I'd start with the fuel system it's the culprit most of the time.

Sounds like you and your friend destroyed an SVO for something a Trbo Coupe could've been used for.
