Default Moving and I need to transport my 1986 2.3

I am not sure if this is the place to post this thread. I am moving from Indiana to North Carolina in mid December. I do not want to drive my mustang that distance and don't really have enough belongings to need a full moving truck. I have spoken with Budget and Penske and they are requiring at least a 16 foot truck to tow a car carrier. I was talking to a truck driver at work today and she told me that she believes the car could be towed behind a 1/2 ton or 3/4 van safely. The route I am taking involves the least amount of hills possible so far as I have seen.

What I am asking here is that if anyone can throw me some affordable ideas of how to move this vehicle safely. I am really not looking to pay a thousand dollars, as I am on a budget currently. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much

your best option like greens said would be to rent a tow dolly which only would cost you 200 bucks for 5 days if not less then rent a truck im pruty sure a ranger could do it as long as it was the 6cyl and not the 2.3 pulling a 2.3. lol

I talked to a buddy of mine in the meat dept today who has a 99( I think) F150 4x4. I offered him 200 bucks plus gas both ways to put my car on a carrier that another friend of mine has, which he will let us use, to take my stuff and the car to wilmington. He has the Triton V8 in it so I am sure it wont be a prob, and has done some mods under the hood as well. I am waiting on his answer at this time, but seeing as how 200 cash for 2 days work is easy money, I think he will accept. I would have just thrown what I was keeping in my car, but I dont want to kill the shocks. I have a 302 block and the heads and tranny for the future build, and I am not leaving those behind. In my opinion that is too much weight for my car and the 2.3 its using. I appreciate all the advice and will let yall know how the move goes as it progresses.

im pruty sure the tritons can tow up to 10,000-12,000 pounds.

I came to a decision on this subject. I appreciate all the advice, but I am not willing to pay the gas necessary to get it towed or rent a trailer. I decided to sell what big stuff I have off and keep the load light. I am going to drive my fox to NC. I will come back in a couple of months and retrieve my V8 parts from a safe garage I have them in. This will be the first long trip in the car and I am looking forward to it.

I am gonna tune it up this weekend as I am leaving next Thursday or Friday. Replacement of the upper and lower radiator hoses, a rad flush, tranny fluid check , differential and such. I will include the basics as well. If you have any more advice on certain things I should top off, check, etc. please let me know.

Thanks a lot!
