If the vacuum modulator goes bad on my 1993 Mustang Convertible what happens with the gear shifting. I am having a few problems and thinking the modulator might be the problem. Thanks for any Help.

your shifts would be slow, if its shifting at all.. two things you could do to check it, i would first make sure the vacuum line is hooked up, and then measure how much vacuum is at the end of the line.. to do that, you have to pull the hose off, and when its off, check to see if fluid comes out of the line, if it does, replace it

well it shifted hard into rev but then when i got down the road it wouldn't shift at all. Then once i parked it I had to give it a lot of gas to get it to back up. I bought this mustang from a real shyster I had it and drove it with no problems for two weeks. Man told me engine had only 48,000 miles on it. It had a lot of lucas in it is what it had and the motor blew on it threw a rod. put a used engine in it but transmission was pulled out with old engine. filter was changed in transmission and it had black fluid in it but looked good otherwise. got it all put back together and now it just doesn't want to shift.

it was explained to me that forward gear pressure is leaking into reverse trying to make the car go backwards while it's going forwards, happened to me, i've also heard of a tranny shop fixing it for $40, some solinoid or somthing,i don't know tranny's and i don't believe it's a $40 fix, i hate auto tranny's so i did a t5 swap, never have that problem again.

i am starting to get some parts for mine, i plan on taking it out and completely rebuilding it, then putting it back in.. mine does close to the same thing as yours, it takes forever for it to move when i put it in reverse, and it usually doesnt shift from 1st into 2nd

well replaced the vacuum modulator because when i pulled the vacuum tube it was full of oil. Now i have a new one on but it still is slow going into reverse the clunk into reverse is gone but its slow going back into drive as well. It seems to shift ok though.
Thanks again for all the help on this.

i would guess you are low on pressure in the tranny... make sure you are full of fluid, and if you are, i would guess you would need a rebuild..
