Angry a4ld(auto) trans wont shift out of first?

...i was driving my car for awhile i got out and left the car running for a few minutes i returned to my car and began to drive away when i realized my trans wouldent shift out of first but can be shifted manully .1st 2nd and reverse is fine but will not shift out of first in drive or overdrive anyone know what would cause this its driving me crazy trying to find out? i have checked the tranny fluid,vac lines and changed the trans mod ,removed and checked for stuck valves on the valve body,i also tryed adjusting the bands with no luck...

any help is helpful...thanks

Hi, there are a few things that come to mind that You can check. first, when You replaced the vacuum mod. did You make sure that the mod. valve moved freely?. Also the Governor could be hanging up. Take off the tail shaft, it is attached with 2 bolts by the parking prowl. Did You check to see how much vacuum is @ the modulator?. Was there material in the pan when You pulled it?. I use to rebuild those trans. regularly but it has been awhile.

thanks for the response...i did check the trans mod it was moving freely and it is getting vacuum (i dont know how much excatly)
i dont have a way right now to check the pressure...the Governor is the next thing i was going to try to mess with...also there was no materials in the pan at all...?

It was moving freely? it should be bolted in, using the hold down, not able to move around.. i might not be understanding what you were trying to get at... but the vacuum modulator itself should not move at all
