NavySVO, are you saying the 5.0 T5 bearing retainer (factory or aftermarket) will fit a 4.03 geared T5?

I didn't know that.

i had a 2.3 t-5 and it was way different than my 5.0 t-5. wouldn't fit at all.bought a used one for $80 from a ford performance shop. the trans i had was out of a 95 and i had to change the input shaft, bearing retainer and bell housing to fit the shifter in the stock location.

I didn't know that.
An email quote form Bob Hanlon of Hanlon Motorsports;
"We can install the steel retainer as long as your box is not a 3.97 low gear model. They use a bigger imput shaft bearing than any other T-5. If it is a 3.50 or a 4.02 it will work"

He has been working on T-5 transmissions for over 20 years, so I would trust him.

That's good news that I hadn't seen before. I wasn't questioning your expertise. You seem to know your stuff. You've corrected me on more than one occasion.

Knowing what I know, if Hanlon says something about a T5, you can pretty much chisel it in stone and send it down the mountain with Moses and the other stone tablets.

Thanks again for the info.

Just the gearing a bit. I really don't know on the N/A cars.

Here is the 84 SVO T-5 gearing specs:
1st 4.03
2nd 2.37
3rd 1.50
4th 1.00
5th .86

here is the 85 and up (after 84 the T-5 was a World Class trans)
1st 3.50
2nd 2.14
3rd 1.36
4th 1.00
5th .78
