1987 Mustang LX Hatchback 2.3L Idle problem

Hey, I'm new to All Ford Mustangs.com. I have a 1987 Mustang LX hatchback. I just got it a week ago. Its got a 2.3 out of a Ranger, but I'm guessing its of similar age. Anyway, as I was parking it today, started idleing rough, and almost died, then I put it in park and it did the same thing. I've noticed that the oil pressure gauge is very jumpy at idle, but I don't know if its related or not. Has anybody else had this happen, or know of anything that might help? Thanks!

Does the motor have a distributor? If it does it puts the engine at a 1990 and earlier.
Not trying to be an a$$, you need to get either a Haynes or Chilton repair manual.
Try looking for a vacuum line loose or cracked,check the engine timing and install fresh air and fuel filters; spark plugs,oil change with filter won't hurt.
Now the oil gauge jumping could be be bad sender wire as in a dirty connection,frayed insulation, poor engine or battery grounds
This should get you started
