Well I've already done it. I bought a car that had a mileage discrepancy on the Carfax report. It was only messed up by about 300 miles and was written 1 day apart. Someone installed 3.73 gears and didn't calibrate it. So I really have no idea how many miles are on the car.
well, the point is because I can't stand not knowing, and I want opinions. I went to look at a 92 Convertible 2.3 recently..in pretty good shape it's got a new top, paint, tires. The engine bay is clean, engine runs smooth..interior is mint, etc. BUT it needs a tranny and the instrument cluster was changed out and reads 299,000...SO i dont know what I wanna do, I wanna buy the thing at the same time who knows how many miles its got!
well sounds like to me someone has kept good care of that car. just be sure to check everything good (shock, struts, bushings, brakes, so on and so fourth) and as for the transmission what is wrong with it? slipping? locked up?

Well what happened with the transmission was the vacuum modulator was sucking tranny fluid into the engine..so they got a new modulator and now it doesnt shift at all. When I took it for the test drive I could smell burning..But I didnt check the dipstick for the smell. Do you think the tranny is gone?
Also, does it ever get to a point where the transmission is completely gone, like, the current one can't even be rebuilt?
What I'm thinking is maybe the current owner just kept driving it and they didnt know the trans. fluid was getting sucked in with the oil..so they just kept driving it until it wouldnt shift at all. I dunno cause mine always shifted and I ran it without fluid lol
