Default How to prevent rust on Hatchback?

I have an 88 mustang and it has minor rust. How can I prevent future or fix it. Or for those that aint got rust or just got it repaired, how could they prevent future rust?

well that issue, i believe, starts with the fact that ford didnt paint the underneath the spoiler. So removing itm if you have one, and painting it will help to prevent more.

If it's rusted through it would have to either be replaced (a new hatch) or repaired (patch panel). You could take it to a body shop if you don't want to do-it-yourself. For future rust control, I would suggest painting the underside of the sheet metal with a high quality primer/sealer and even some rust paint on the primer.
I would also probably make sure that all of the seams between the skin of the hatch and the undercarriage/frame are sealed well. If not, some silicone sealer.

If its surface rust, sand it down and get some POR15 I think its called. Just dont use wd40 I was told by a hotrod builder that if you put that on your car it wont hold paint.

My car had a little crack in the paint from rust so i just rubbed some POR 15 in the crack. It hasn't gotten any worst.
