look at my items ( listed below this in my signature ) thats pretty much it other than cams and a new intake manifold . mine runs pretty strong , im comfterble with it right now . unexpensive stuff goes a long way when you combine them all togather like i did .
good luck and hit me up for all the items if you need help with installing or doing them .

I wouldn't go too wild with the spray on those cast pistons unless you want to go into the swiss cheese business.
Get a turbo head, shave it about .100"(If its a street car, .150" for a trailor queen), play with the timing, and find you some circle track websites to look at. Very helpful. Gears, lockers, headers, pulleys....

I sure do miss it.

Since your 86 is carburetted, it leaves a whole lot more playroom. I had the same setup you did and got tired of it and yanked it and backdated it to about 1977. I've got the stock for '77 Weber 2 barrel carb and Duraspark II ignition. Works GREAT. I put a Ranger roller camshaft in it too just for a little more smooth operation. You can get headers, or even bolt a traditional Holley 2 barrel carb on there. Check out esslinger racing to see how wild you can get. Just be forewarned, parts sometimes are not cheap!

if your really looking for something to have fun with. swap in a turbocoupe or svo motor. they came with forged internals. also can upgrade to a t3 turbo. clear out the exhaust (rod out your cats) bigger cam maybe, and you should be ok.

Uhhh 86 no 87 he's running a carbed 2.3 like the rest of us 4I owners. I see Ethangsmith has already shown his molevolent presence. Racer walsh also has some stuff, check out the stikied topics. Remember your starting out with 88 hp, like he said get a different carb, I lucked up and got a OFFY 4bbl intake. aaamarine.com may still have some. Although its not reconmended without a cam(more than any stock cam) cause the holley 390 is a lil intense for a stock motor. I ran across a site that sold cold air intakes for carbed cars but it may be on my other computer. just stick with the stock air cleaner, They arent that bad. It just takes some work like any other motor, they use these in ministock so they arent all that bad.

there really isnt much to do. but since it is carbed, go to your local track and ask the guys that run the mini mods this same question. they specialize in making power out of the 2.3l motors. and the have some pretty powerful set ups.
