Default Auto to 5 speed

I would like to switch my car to 5 speed, however it is a daily driver so i dont have the time to do it myself. How much would a shop charge to put one in? Would they put one in that I buy myself?

A shop will put a transmission that you bought into your car is what I understand from my research, when I needed a different transmission. The installation will run from 100 to 200 depending on where you take it because different experience levels take different amounts of time to install a tranny. They all charge about the same per hour, but it takes them different amounts of time to put it in. I put mine in myself after hereing those prices. I went from a T-5 to a T-5 though. Without a tranny jack, or pit. I put my tranny in in less than an hour with the help of someone to lift it into place. The car was only two feet off the ground so it was a tight fit.
If you can get some help, it is best to change the transmission with a friend then pay somebody else.

hope this helps

In general T5 from 83 up 2.3 equipped Mustang or turbocoupe.

I like the 86 on, since that's a "world class" T5. It's a bit nicer than the original T5's. I have an older and a newer in my cars.

If you want to do the swap yourself, I have a link on my webpage that will walk you through it. Requires a weekend though.

Sell it and buy something else! .. and I dont think these guys know you are talking about auto to 5 spd.. Thats alot of work.. I can see t-5 to t-5 an easier swap.. but you need to get the new pedals.. cables.. Im not sure on this one, but I think the computer needs to be changed to.. Shops charge like 1,000$ cdn and parts extra

you can actually use a t-5 from a 5.0 car if you get a special pilot bushing and use a 2.3 t-5 bellhousing.youll have to have the pedal assembly from a manual 2.3 fox body car, clutch cable, quadrant, trans, bellhousing, clutch, flywheel,a nd clutch assembly.this isnt a real hard swap, just really involved.
