Hi everyone my name is govani and im new to the world of the 2.3 turbo AND TO THESE FORUMS I've recently bought a 81 mustang that has a 85 or 86 turbo coupe engine in it.
It runs really well and everything except for 2 problems.
1st....
For some reason i don't feel the turbo kick in????
It drives and handles great though.
I really love this car
2nd....
when i start the car it shakes a lot for like 2 or 3 mins everytime i start it. And in the mornings when i turn on the caR IT TURNS OFF AT LEAST ONCE EVERY MORNING?
Can any of u people help me please.
THANKS
#1 the wastegate rod may be rotted, or the wastegate could be siezed. also the turbo impeller could be siezed due to lack of oil.
#2 have you done a tune up? could be a faulty plug wire cap or rotor. check to see if the radiator fan is attached securely, mine came loose and made the whole car shake.

Idle screw at throttle. If idling rough need to solve that first. The IAC have a tendecy to need cleaned out. If dirty can cause bad idle. Here is good page to save has info on all sensors. Including the IAC FAQ ? ?
On the wastegate. Under the turbo is a round metal can with a vacuum hose to it. That is what opens the wastegate to regulate boost. [too much boost can be bad. I know]. The rod to is the wastegate rod. And on the exhaust side of the turbo inside is a disc that opens when too much boost and. Sometimes these rods come off and no got no boost. Here is picture not your turbo but is similiar. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...CL._AA280_.jpg
turbo impeller. Look inside the turbo and will see a wheel that is impeller. Sometimes if they sit a long time turbo will not spin. Using care edges can be sharp. Try spinning it. It should spin extremely easy.
Haha okay bro thanks a lot I got it all figure out now. Thanks a lot u guys.

Ha ha. You are just starting. Just wait. I am still learning alot. Bigger injectors, MAF conversion, Blow thru MAF, DOHC volvo head, Sohc Volvo head, Distributorless ignition, Holset turbo, Percision turbo, Stroked engine, Long block engine [very rare],megasquirt, and that is a very small tip of the iceberg. But having a blasting trying to learn
Haha really I'm looking forward to learning though...
And I think I'm up for the challenge
Car runs superb now =]

just to be clear a loose or unballanced fan will cause the car to shake.
