Default question about a 2.3 turbo engine

Ok guys in need of some advice. i am currently restoring a 1992 fox body mustang with a 2.3 stock engine and an automatic transmission. my goal is to upgrade to a 2.3 turbo engine. i recently found a 2.3 turbo engine from a thunderbird supercoupe and know that those motors have been put in fox bodies before. I can get the whole 2.3 turbo engine, i.e. the computer and all. however the car that the motor was pulled from had a manual transmission. will this motor work in my automatic? if not is there a way to make it work? thanks for the help

Welcome The motors are the same. Just unbolt your accessories and lay to side and bolt motor in. I didn't even remove my power steering pump or ac from car. Now for the transmission. Since the turbo car is a 5speed. The computer will not control the automatic. Will need a differant computer or swap in the 5speed. That is the best idea. The stock [a4ld] automatic behind a turbo car usually doesn't last long. Supercoupe is wrong word. Supercoupe came along 89 and were a 3.8 supercharged engine. The properword is Turbocoupe. You can check out Stinger for the wiring of the computer into car. Make sure to get all you need when get motor. Motor complete with intake, injectors, turbo etc. The computer, exhaust downpipe, the vam [under the air cleaner]. Hose between vam and turbo and map/bap. [there is a debate turbo and nonturbo not the same or is the same]. I say swap it anyway. Hope that helps and ask all the question you want to. Everyone here to help. Maurice

Really you cant find anything to make the 5spd comp work you have to buy another one and there is no point you should go 5spd any ways when you put that turbo motor in the first time you get it to 15psi if not less the tranny will fall to pieces.

New computer no. Can try autozone.com for same year with a automatic instead. On the Internet it will be a 8UA or LB?. Even tho I am running a automatic. But it is a c-4. Like already pointed out the stock a4ld doesn't like boost. The 5speed computer can be install and you can drive the car. You will just lose the lockup of the torque convertor and 4th gear. Best thing to do is convert to 5speed. Or save up money after the swap for a transmission rebuild.

If want to go c-4. Now will need to find a rare 2.3 or 2.0 c-4 bellhousing. Found in Pinto's and read in some MustangII. Here is writeup on it, I added some info about halfway down in post. May help.
